City of Menifee Now Accepting Applications for Inaugural Citizens Academy

Want to learn more about what it takes to run a city? Applications are now being accepted for the Inaugural Menifee Citizens Academy hosted by the City of Menifee. The academy is a free, eight-week course to promote an open dialogue with the community and provide an overview of the City’s government and operations. All Menifee residents and business owners are invited to participate.

Menifee’s Citizens Academy provides an interactive program of how the city functions and serves its residents and businesses with workshop sessions and tours led by city department heads, city staff, and elected officials. An overview of each city department will occur throughout the eight-week course, along with question-and-answer sessions.

The goal of the program is to connect Menifee citizens and businesses to their local government and provide insights into city services and the functions of city departments. Subject matter for the Menifee Citizens Academy ranges from building a smart city, residential and commercial activity, emergency management, city budgetary processes, capital improvement projects, and public safety. The program also includes interactive demonstrations and a guided tour of the city. Each session is hosted by city staff members from the departments being featured each week.

“Menifee’s Citizens Academy will provide participants with a behind-the-scenes look of how the City of Menifee operates and give them a wealth of knowledge regarding their city government,” said City Manager Armando Villa. “By building this strong foundation together, we can create a powerful and better-informed community.”
The Menifee Citizens Academy is led by the Office of Economic Development and each session will meet on consecutive Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, August 16 and ending Tuesday, October 11. Participants must attend at least six of the eight sessions to graduate.

To register, please visit www.menifeebusiness.com/citizensacademy. Enrollment is open to adults aged 18 and older who are Menifee residents or business owners. Space is limited to the first 25 applicants and applications close on Tuesday, August 2.
